To develop the Pacific Roadmap for Strengthened Climate Services (PRSCS) 2017-2026
Secretariat of the Pacific Environment Programme (SPREP)
SPREP, WMO, Pacific Meteorological Council (PMC) , UNDP, The national governments of Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Kiribati (including National Meteorological Services), NOAA, BoM, SPC, NIWA, CSIRO, APCC, International Federation of Red Cross, University of the South Pacific (USP), World Vision and USAID.
What the project involved:
PSS consulted stakeholders across the several countries including government, NGOs, community groups and academic institutions as well as key regional bodies to identify and implement the most critical priorities for each Pacific island country, ensuring its government and communities have reliable and well-understood information on their climate. Additionally, PSS undertook a benchmarking assessment on national meteorological services across the Pacific.
The PRSCS provide pacific nations with a priority listing of key actions that are required for implementing the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS). The PRSCP focuses both on the needs of climate service providers (national, regional local government agencies) as well as key sectors that rely on that information/advice which is needed in their planning and decision making.
It provides a guiding framework for the development of national and regional climate services, targeting priority sectors such as Agriculture and Food Security, Disaster Risk Management, Energy, Health, Water, Fisheries and Aquaculture and Tourism.
The PRSCS was endorsed by the 4th PMC meeting in August 2017.
